Daycare occupancy rate, without a spreadsheet
Occupancy is one of the simplest ways to see how much of your available daycare capacity is currently being used. For a home daycare, even one open place can represent a meaningful share of possible tuition because total capacity is usually limited.
Daycare occupancy formula
Occupancy rate = enrolled children ÷ capacity × 100. If you have 8 enrolled children and capacity for 10, your occupancy rate is 80% and you have 2 open places.
What this number does not tell you
It does not account for age-group ratios, part-time schedules, local licensing limits, staffing, room restrictions or whether an open place can realistically be filled. Use the capacity figure that actually applies to your program.
